Steps in searching for
your lost pet bird
Remember to breathe and take it one step at a time in your search.
I never thought I would lose one of my feathered friends but it can happen to anyone no matter how cautious you are. It can make you feel heart-broken, devastated and helpless. All pets are special and anyone who has a pet will totally understand how difficult it is when one gets lost. Every time I see a “lost” sign posted my heart sinks because I know what it feels like to loose a pet. There is a great sense of loss, wondering if they are injured, scared, or starving. The thought of never seeing them again tears away at our hearts. The thought of never knowing their fate makes us feel so powerless.
Losing any pet is horrible, but losing a bird makes you feel incredibly helpless since you have no idea how far they flew away. Everything seems so huge and overwhelming when you are looking for a lost bird and all you see are tall trees and a huge sky. This world seems so big and losing a pet bird is like losing a needle in a haystack.
This site is a guide for you to help keep you on track when you feel discouraged and in need of a support system. Self-care is very important.
My Story
In Memory of Kit Kat 2006-2018
I lost Kit Kat on June 17, 2011. It was two days before my birthday and I was devastated. I did not know what to do at first since I felt so helpless. Something inside me told me not to give up and not to stop looking for her. I knew in my heart when I would have to accept that I may not ever see her again. After 70 days, she was found and was safe in my hands again. She was found by a very kind lady two and a half miles from my house. She saw my flyers weeks before Kit Kat showed up in her front yard, landed on her car and presented herself to her. Below is my story. I hope it inspires you not to give up when you loose your bird. I was blessed to have six more years and four months with Kit Kat after she was found outside. She unfortunately, passed away on March 29, 2018 very unexpectedly and I miss her dearly. She was my little feathed soulmate. She was chocking most likely on a seed husk that got stuck in her windpipe. I took her to the emergency vet and they did everything they could to try to help her, but she did not make it and I have been very devastated. I am very grateful for the extra time we had together. This website is dedicated to Kit Kat. I still receive many Facebook messages from people finding my story that I wrote on mlive.com and seeking advice or just letting me know that my story is giving them hope and strength as they search for their lost bird. I hope this website will help many people in their search. Never, ever, give up hope on your lost pet.
